Allentown Presbyterian Church is home to the oldest, continually run Sunday School in rural Ameria!
The 2008-09 year is our 199th year! What a tradition we have! APC Sunday School is a tradition, but would hardly be called “traditional.” Traditional sometimes has the connotation of “old” or “stuffy,” and we promise you, we are NOT THAT!
Sunday School
Elementary Sunday School is offered on Sunday mornings between worship services at 9:45 -10:45 a.m. for children in PreK (4 years old) through 5th Grade.
Staffed completely by dedicated volunteers, we are "Keeping it R.E.A.L." in Sunday School: Relational, Experiential, Applicable, and Learner-based:
R: Relational
Shortened lecture time
Use of open-ended questions and conversation
Small Groups
E: Experiential
Vary teaching techniques:
Rock Solid purchased curriculum
Core Value Lessons (to intentionally teach specific core Christian beliefs)
WoRMs/ACTs which are highly participatory
Children’s Worship Service
A: Applicable
All lessons conclude with “life application questions” and discussions
“So what?” “How does this story apply to MY life?”
L: Learner-based
Teachers are aware of the various learning styles:
Incorporate teaching methods which engage more than one of the senses
Teachers develop a sense of “what works” for their students
While all the statistics and stories from the Bible are important to learn, they have little value if the children don’t develop a relationship with Christ. We don’t want to just fill the kids’ BRAINS with FACTS. We want to fill their HEARTS with LOVE for JESUS; with a passion to know, love and follow GOD. We want to raise children who KNOW and LOVE GOD. Who have a RELATIONSHIP with Jesus Christ.
